GET THE LOOK – Scandinavian Nordic Style

By September 9, 2014 Get the Look No Comments

I personally love the Scandi look, it’s a little quirky and inspiringly innovative.  Playful use of colour, pattern and textures are fun amongst the clean lines of simplistic well designed furniture.  Homes with this styling feel welcoming, family friendly yet sophisticated.  Being a graphic artist myself, I love the use of graphic, geometric and typography prints around the home too.

When it comes to the key influences of creating the Scandinavian look in your home, incorporate the following elements:

  • Timber
  • White walls
  • Small square tiles
  • Grey floors
  • Touches of black
  • Pops of colour and pattern

Below our resident Interior Designer, Tracy from our Geelong West showroom, has put together a tile palette inspired by the Scandi style.

Floors can consist of large format grey tiles, ceramic timber look tiles or patterned tiles.

Square format white or subway tiles feature on wall wet areas with touches of black on accessories, bench tops or appliances.

Pendant lighting, organic natural textures, natural light are other signature characteristics of a Scandi interior.

Timber accents and use of leather or fur, think cowhide rug and or mink throw, softens the cool monochromatic minimal interior.

So start channeling your inner Ikea goddess (if you enjoy a flat pack) or the fine design of Muuto (you can get their products at Kiitos in Barwon Heads). Be inspired by more Scandi styling on our Pinterest boards.
